I have arranged with a pub in Sowerby Bridge called The Works on Hollins Mill Lane opposite the old Baths & Fire Station to put the last of the old Honours Boards on display on a wall inside this very popular pub where it will be seen by many people, some maybe listed on the board itself. I think this is a great solution to the problem of storing the board, and keeps it in Sowerby Bridge.

I am looking after the last of the honours boards from the old school building. My brother rescued it from being skipped but as he lives in the USA finds the cost of shipping it over too much, it remains here. It is 6 feet x 6 feet and has the names of pupils going on to university from 1962 to 1965. Anybody want it? we are moving house so it is threatened with the skip yet again. Please get in touch asap if you have any ideas. I have photographs of it if you want me to email them to you.

Hi Elaine (Benson),
In response to your post back in June, I went to work for the Halifax (now Lloyds)- although not straight from school- and have just completed 32 years service. I'm hanging on by the skin of my teeth! - but currently still enjoying a good career in Banking. Over the years I've worked and known a lot of colleagues who started out at SBGS...and I still come into contact with Michelle Oxley, Karen Wolstenholme and Pam Wood on a regular basis (all from mine and your sister Julie's year). There are others; but at my age I have difficulty remembering their maiden names....and in fact their current names! LOL! I remember Dave Pownall very well, as he was the (v handsome!) brother of my good friend Helen, from both Rishworth Junior school and SBGS. Sadly I lost touch with Helen (if you're out there Helen, get in touch with both me and Penny!) I also see Steve Scott at Christmas and Birthday parties of a mutual friend at Sowerby - he hasn't changed a bit either since he used to play football in the boys yard with the (v handsome) Dave Pownall! Your sister Julie and I were amongst those regularly 'oggling through the railings!
Say Hi to Julie for me! Julie (Pickett)

Things seem to have gone quiet on the web-site so I thought I would give it a bit of a wake up call! I saw recently that Howard Crowther had retired from the West Yorkshire Police and I think that made the class who joined SBGS in 1967 complete, there was myself, David Pownall, Steven Scott, Andrew Cushing and Howard Crowther who joined the Police at diffent ages after we left school. I actually joined at 17 with Ian Routledge from the year below. I worked with Ian for a period of time and came across the others, as we were mainly all Detectives, in varying circumstances during our careers and we all managed to complete our thirty years service or more! Madam
Littlefaire was one of my referees when I joined I often wondered what happened to her and thought it would be nice to let her know how I had gone on. It would be nice to know if there are any other people who shared their careers with the people they went to school with! I always thought that a lot went to work for the Halifax and other local businesses.

Hi!
My name is Martin Pope, writing from Norway. Today I received a photo of Sheena Murray taken at UEA Norwich in 1966, where we both studied. I googled her name and found the name in your list. Sheena came from Mytholmroyd, I think it was. This may well be the Sheena I knew. If you know where she is now, please send her contact details.
Thank you.

1967 panoramic - Bev Horne #55. I reckon Mr Horne was our Geography teacher at Westcotes, in Leicester in the late 70's. I remember a school cycling tour to the Dales in 1980, and having tea at his parents house somewhere on the hill south of SB, before a long trek to Malham. Be interested to hear what he's doing now.

Just a thought about the fact that you have photo's from quite far back, and when I look through these I can't help wondering that I think I see people who look very like the fellow pupils I was at school with, yet they are a generation older, am I looking at the parents of my generation? Have a look at the 1940 panoramic pupil 168 he reminds me of David Harrop on the 1967 photo number 149, is it his Dad?

Hi
On the 1963 panoramic photo, no 263 is Richard Sutcliffe (Peter was his dad) - last heard to be running a bar in Majorca, according to his late dad when I spoke to him a good few years ago. I think that 175 is Robert Sugden, whose parents had the newsagents opposite the Yorkshire Penny Bank on the original Tuel Lane.

Hubby bought me a Peter Brook print for my b'day just recently and after looking on the Internet to see what was available, I found this:-
One of the formative events of Peter's life occurred when he was a schoolmaster. "I was teaching the first form at Sowerby Bridge Grammar School and asked them if anyone had any pets - rabbits or guinea pigs - they could bring in that we could draw. One of the girls said, 'we've just had some puppies, can I bring one of those?'"
"It was a border collie. I was so enchanted I was invited to the farm and they gave me a pup. We called it Tip."
Can anyone remember being that person to give Peter his inspiration for all his many wonderful paintings?
